Bedtime Story-Episode One

Image
A sudden thunder accompanying a heavy downpour sent shivers down Christiana’s spine. At that moment she started to wonder why she was so nervous by thunderclaps but she knew deep down that the thought of Bayo was responsible for her anxiety. She had been feeling so tense ever since she saw Bayo nine years after they departed affectionately. She had always imagined that he would have changed, but she never knew the transformation would be so awful. His once good-looking face now so dreadful made shudders run through her lean body and drove away her sleep. She remembered how she would look out of the window from her room to gaze continuously at his strong masculine build while he trimmed the flowers in the garden and how she had imagined his well-built body in her bed. She had fantasized her life in the future with Bayo. Although she tried to push his thought away, but the memories she had with him rushed through her mind unconsciously. When she couldn’t stop to picture t...

SPRINGTIME WARMTH

Image
Amidst the muddle of several drivers honking, disorderly driving and heavy traffic of Lagos road, with loud exchange of banters by drivers and commuters alike, pedestrians dangerously crossing the road, none of these commotions seemed to aggravate a cab driver driving on Ikeja road, heading towards Muritala International Airport. His attitude during this trip was very uncanny; for he was known for letting out streams of invectives on other road users while driving his cab. However, this afternoon he was grinning as he surreptitiously watched through the rear mirror his passengers, two young lovers kissing. Their romance had pushed him out of Lagos into the sweet reminiscences of his youth.  Those good old days when he used to have the younger version of his wife by his side without thoughts of school fees or house rents. He smiled thinking of their sneaky way of meeting at their favorite meeting point, behind a popular restaurant where they kissed. He dared not t...

QUEEN OF KATWE

Movies are not only meant for entertainment, they teach life lessons too. They demonstrate different ways people live and survive which in turn influences our thinking. Movies don’t only remind us of our strengths, they also teach us how to exploit our strengths. I have come across so many great inspirational movies with important life lessons. For instance,I never understood the importance of ‘passion’, until I watched “Florence Foster Jenkins” and “The Beautiful Mind”. Furthermore, “Hercules” taught me the power of self-identity and “Chicken Run” taught me perseverance. In this case, “Queen of Katwe”, a remarkable and inspiring story of Phiona Mutesi’s struggle to succeed against all odds demonstrates that it is possible to overcome obstinate obstacles. The movie, Queen of Katwe is a compendious screenplay on the true story of Phiona Mutesi . This inspirational biographical sport film features Madina Nalwanga who played the role of Phiona Mutesi, a Ugandan girl...

FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS

Image
It is not uncommon to find people who abandoned their dreams because of the fear of criticisms. Indubitably, criticism is like a huge punch on the face though the intentions for such disapproval or censure may differ, it could create strong feelings of discouragement which in turn could result in discontinuing one’s goals or ambitions for a while or even forever. There are people who remain un-flinched in the pursuit of their dreams notwithstanding the magnitude of criticisms they encounter. But what attributes do these people possess that they never allowed condemnation to stand on the way to achieving their dreams? After an encounter with a movie titled “Florence Foster Jenkins” reflecting the life of a woman called Florence Foster Jenkins, I discovered that ‘passion’ has to be one of those traits. The movie is a compendious screenplay on the life of Florence Foster Jenkins. She was a 20th American socialite and supporter of music; she was mocked than appreciated by those ...

HERCULES: WHO AM I?

Image
It is not uncommon to find many adults who think that animation movies are childish. I particularly have many people around me who show no interest in animations; they see it as yesterday’s fun, something that they have outgrown today. I am an adult who enjoys the beauty of the art of animations and haven’t outgrown animations. There is really nothing childish about enjoying a unique and spectacular way of telling stories, the captivating scenery of creatures who are made to look like real humans and animals but do not have the limitations that we have. They could walk on water, fly without wings and do all manner of things that sometimes remind us of how limitless we truly are if we think outside the box and realize how powerful we are. I will not outgrow Disney movies like Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Tarzan and many others. I love Shrek, Frozen, Inside Out and Chicken Run but my favorite still remains Hercules. Hercules helped me discover the greatest thing about success; the disc...

THE PROPOSAL

Image
In the middle of the night, Bimpe rose from her bed, pacing the floor, deep in thought. She had been troubled since she listened to a message preached by the late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya titled ‘How to tell I am in love.’ Listening to that message was actually a coincidence. She had intended to listen to John Legend’s ‘All of me’ but she coincidentally clicked on the message and decided to listen to it. In her sermon, Pastor Bimbo talked about the difference between love and a crush; and how important it was for a man and a lady in a relationship to define their relationship. She went on to advise any lady involved in a relationship that had not been defined to take a bold step and ask her partner what the relationship meant to him.  Her message touched Bimpe’s heart, opened her eyes and brought up so many questions about her relationship with Deji, it needed to be defined. She had been in a deep stable romantic relationship with Deji for about three years but sh...

OLD MAN'S TALE-4

EPISODE 4              “Yes, go to Africa and enjoy the beautiful culture and heritage of Africa.”  Mary smiled as she pondered on his words. He wasn’t different from his kind that regards Africa, a big and populous continent as a country. Why would he tell her to go to Africa like Africa was a small country? Why didn’t he mention a specific country? Her country, Nigeria, a populous country with diverse cultures and tribes is as big as a continent. No one needed to be told that such a magnificent continent shouldn’t be called a country. She believed it was just sarcasm. But she decided to smile as she said, “Old man, you know I am an African lady.”              “That ...
